He entered the service in 1776, when he was 24 years old, under Capt. Jacob Bishop. John Derr was born in 1753 in Limerick Township, Montgomery Co., PA., the place where he enlisted. He was also under Capt. Banjamin Brooks, Capt. Peter Lowry and Lieut. John Missimer
