St Clair County formed 27 Apr 1790 from the Northwest Territory; Randolph 1795, Madison 1812, Monroe 1816, and Washington 1818 formed from it.
In 1801, William Henry Harrison then Governor of Illinois, made St Clair and Randolph part of Indiana Territory; in 1803 he readjusted the boundaries. In 1805, Nathaniel Pope, acting territorial governor, put both counties in Indiana Territory.

Warren formed 1825 from Pike; Henderson formed from it in 1841.     

Wayne formed 1819 from Edwards; Fayette 1821 and Clay 1823 formed from it.

Whiteside formed 16 Jan 1836 from Jo Daviess and Henry

Williamson County formed 28 Feb 1839 from Franklin County.

Woodford formed 1841 from Tazewell and McLean.
