Isaac Hudson

1761-1834
Delaware - North Carolina - Kentucky - Indiana

The Isaac Hudson line is pretty well documented - There's a DAR file on him created by Mabel Trisler Metz (DAR#506434) which has been most helpful.
We are not part of his direct line, but may be descendants of a brother or cousin. We certainly occupied many of the same places at the same times as his people.
Some of Isaac's children went to Texas in the 1840s - and some of our Hudsons did too.
I haven't tried to do original research, but I did try to organize things to separate his folks from the rest of the Hudsons who may be our folks.
So here it is.

Isaac Hudson was born 18 Apr 1761 in Kent Co, Delaware. He served in the Revolutionary War.

"Isaac Hudson entered the service ~1781 as a volunteer under the command of Capt. Hilling as a Minute Man, but was not attached to any regiment. Served to close of war. Services confined to guard of coast bordering Delaware Bay. Called out frequently by his Capt. but only for a few days at a time. Order Book #3, p. 206, Warrick Co., Ind., gives affidavit for pension."
(DAR file)

I have not found him in the Rev. War Abstracts Book.

He had at least one brother, Daniel, who was born ~1763 in Kent Co. Their father was possibly Arnold Hudson, but nothing more is known about him. I like to think his name was actually Absalom, because of the Absalom who is with Daniel and Isaac in Rowan County in 1790, but possibly he was another brother. (Both Absalom and Arnold are names which continue in the family.)

After the War, he moved to Rowan Co, NC and is there for the 1790 census, along with a few other Hudsons.

Actually, there were Hudsons in North Carolina much earlier. In 1782, John Hutson and Thomas Hudson; 1782-3, Abm Hudson (I'm guessing this is Absalom whose name is spelled out later-but there was also an Abram Hudson); in 1787 Peter Hutson appears.

At some point, probably before 1790, because there is a woman with him then, he married Nancy Unknown. They had at least 8 children (mentioned in his will, 1834):
         Matilda "Tilly" b ~1790
m William Patterson 28 Oct 1821, Warrick Co, Ind
m Peter Meese 14 Apr 1837, Warrick Co, Ind
Amelia "Millie" b. 4 July 1791, Rowan Co, NC
m John McMurtry 18 Dec 1814, Butler Co, KY
(McMurtry died 1820 in Warrick Co, Ind)

Sarah "Sally" b. Aug 1794, NC

         Daniel b. 1 Apr 1806 NC
               m. Rachel Perigo 8 Feb 1829, Warrick Co, Ind
               m. Harriet Neely 27 Dec 1830, Warrick Co, Ind
         Enoch b. ~1811, KY
               m. Nancy Gray 3 Sep 1829, Warrick Co, Ind
         Elizabeth "Betsy" b. ~1814, KY
              m. Elias Wilder 2 Oct 1832, Warrick Co, Ind
From the 1790 census, it looks as though there should be another, older, son as well - but these are the only ones mentioned in the will.

In 1793, Isaac was one of the signers on a petition to hold separate elections for Rowan County.

I don't know where Isaac is in 1800. He must have been in Kentucky for a while because some of his children got married in Butler County. (There are Hudsons in Ohio County, KY, the next over from Butler - but no Isaac that I've found.) In 1817 or so he went to Warrick County, and he is there for the 1820 census - he is the only Hudson in Warrick for 1820.

This is many more children than Isaac actually had, but if you assume that the newly widowed Amelia was staying with her father, things do fit better, with only one unknown person.

In 1830, Isaac was no longer the only Hudson on the census. There were three Isaacs, as well as an Arnold, a Daniel, an Enoch and a William. The Isaac under discussion is probably the oldest Isaac, Isaac sr, on p. 261 (Boon Twp.)

I have no idea who the younger male is - all his sons were married by 1830.

The Daniel in the 1830 census is probably Isaac's brother, who was born ~1763 in Kent Co, Delaware. He married Mary Margaret Taylor and together they had at least 6 children. After North Carolina, Daniel moved to Clark Co, Indiana for a while, where his son Arnold married Nancy Roby in 1813.

The Arnold in the 1830 Warrick Co census is Daniel's son; Enoch and the Isaac who lived in Skelton Twp are probably Isaac's sons. That leaves Isaac M and William Hudson as"unattached." (However, they also could have been Daniel's sons.)

Isaac died ~1834 (his will was probated in June of that year). He was buried in Warrick County, but I have not found a cemetery listing for him.
