Kentucky Robertses

Jesse Roberts headed for Kentucky as soon as he finished his apprenticeship at age 18 (~1794). He settled near Smithland (now Livingston County).
I did this searching when I was just starting out, so the sources are not very well marked. If I have time, I will go back over them. I didn’t put down the page numbers for most of the census listings - at the time, I was just interested in seeing where the names clustered. : - (

Counties of Todd and Christian, Kentucky : historical and biographical / editors: J.H. Battle, Todd County history; W.H. Perrin, Christian County history. [Chicago : F.A. Battey Pub. Co., 1884].
      p. 43 ...we find that among the earliest settlers, and the people living here when the county was formed, were the following...Obadiah Roberts...John Roberts...Azariah Davis...Edward Davis...etc etc. Little is known of the great majority of them, of many absolutely nothing except, as shown by the records, they were here prior to 1800.
      p. 49 County Court - 1st one held 21 Mar 1797 ...the monotony of the proceedings was then broken, by granting a license to Obadiah Roberts “to keep a public house.”
      p. 64 Obadiah Roberts was a son-in-law of Bartholomew Wood, and was the first man licensed to keep a tavern in Elizabeth, as Hopkinsville was then called.
      p. 121 - the next road ordered by the court was in May (15th) 1798, designated the “State Line near David Smith’s” as the starting point. Petition by Brewer Reeves. Court appointed Obadiah Roberts, John Caudry, Shepard McFadin, Bartholomew Ward, and John Roberts, or any three of them...
      p. 202 Taverns - At the first term (March 1797) (Ob. Roberts granted license)...Where this tavern was to be kept the records do not show...it was more than 2 years before Elizabeth (or Hopkinsville) was laid out - probably not there. Nothing is known of Mr Roberts and his tavern beyond the fact that the court granted him a license for that purpose.
I have to go back and look at this one because at the time I did not know what I was looking for, and there are other Robertses: John 51, 168; William 192; Edwin 223, 291; EJ 299; Sidney 356;
Mary 502; Sallie, Basil, Martin - 573; Susan, Martin - 574; AD?, Susan - 592; Sarah, EJ, Elizabeth, Thomas, James, John, Joseph 611; James, John 612 - but probably the further back in the book, the later in time the people (Wrong!)

     pg. 87 - Cadiz Precinct
William Roberts came to the county as early as 1804, and settled in the neighborhood of Cerulean Springs, where he lived until 1811, when he removed to what is now Cadiz Precinct and opened up a farm in Little River.
     p. 242 - William Roberts was born on July 18, 1810, on Little River, in what was then Christian County, now Cadiz Precinct, Trigg Co. He was the son of John and Nancy (Atkins) Roberts. The father was born in Buckingham County, Virginia, in 1759. His father died when he was quite young. At the age of 16, John Roberts volunteered to go as a guard to a party who was coming West. The party came to what is now Nashville, Tenn., and Mr. Roberts was one of a number who helped erect the block house that stood where the capital building now stands.
      He lived at this point for some time, and there his first wife was killed and scalped by the Indians. He came to this county in 1804, and settled near Cerulean Springs. In the early part of the year 1814, he came to Little River, and purchased a tract of land from David McKee, and which is now included in Cadiz Precinct. Here he resided until his death which occurred on January 7, 1833. The mother died here on October 7, 1837. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Our subject was the eldest of four brothers: William, Robert R., David L., and Phineas E. Of the number, David L., now in Mississippi, and William (subject) are the only ones living.
      William remained at home until his mother's death and then commenced life for himself and settled on Little River in this precinct. In 1841, he came to his present farm, where he has since resided. He now owns 220 acres, of which 85 are in cultivation. Mr. Roberts was married on July 9, 1833, to Miss Nancy Malone, a daughter of Booth and Martha A. (Darnell) Malone, natives of Montgomery County, Tenn. Mrs. Roberts was born in that county in 1813. To her and her husband have been born 8 children, of whom 3 are now living: JOHN W. (at home), RICHARD B. (a merchant in St. Louis, Mo), and SUSAN A. (wife of Irving Branden, of Wallonia). Mrs. Roberts died on January 7, 1859, and subject was next married to Mrs. M. J. Nelson, a daughter of Mahala and Rebecca (Randolph) Ingram. Mrs. Roberts was born in Claiborne Co., Miss, on August 15, 1822. Mr. Roberts is a member of Roaring Springs Lodge A.F.M., also a member of the Methodist Church. He cast his first vote for Andrew Jackson for President, and has since then been a strong Democrat.
      pg. 91 - Oakland Methodist Episcopal Church, in southern part of precinct was organized in 1859 by Rev. William Alexander. Original members were: William Roberts, Nancy Roberts.. The First Officers Were William Roberts, Trustees, they acted as Stewards also;
      pg. 123 - Cerulean Springs & Wallonia Precincts
      John Blakely settled two miles southeast of the Springs as early as 1792, and was joined soon after by William Johnson and John Roberts, both of whom came from South Carolina.
      pg. 134 - Caledonia & Montgomery Precincts
      David Macky settled where Thomas Wadlington lives, about the year 1810; he sold the place to John Roberts in an early day.
      pg. 229 - Hopkinsville City & Precinct
      E.J. Roberts was one of the most devoted men the church ever had in its membership. His humility, firmness, kindness, liberality and moderation were happily blended, controlled by a strong abiding faith and great decision of character. (Bethel Church)
      pg. 291 - Lafayette & Garrettsburg Precincts
      The first physician who ever practiced medicine in Lafayette or its vicinity Was Dr. Roberts, a most excellent physician and a splendid gentleman, who had a thousand virtues and but a single fault.
