Co Mayo, Ireland - Warrick Co, Indiana
The second child - and only daughter - of Michael and Mary Stanton was born in about 1836 or 1837, in Ireland (presumably Co. Mayo).
Her family emigrated to the US in about 1846 and settled in Warrick County, Indiana, where her father died a few years later - in late 1849 or early 1850. She and her mother and 5 brothers were left, strangers in a strange land, with very little money, and possibly very little English (brother Patrick said their native tongue was Irish). Somehow they survived, probably with a lot of help from their neighbors.
In the 1850 census, they were all living together:

It is possible that her mother, Mary, got married again - to John P Baker - in 1851. In 1853, when she was about 16, Mary Ann got married herself, to the nephew of John P (at least I think he was the nephew), Thomas Baker:

In 1860, Mary Ann and Thomas were living in Boon Township with their three oldest children and Mary Ann's brother John:

Mary Ann's widowed-for-the-second-time mother and two of her brothers were living with her parents-in-law, James and Leah (Hedges) Baker, who seem to have been quite wonderful people. (In 1850, they had a young niece living with them; in 1860, they had taken in the Stantons. . . )
When the Civil War came along, all of Mary Ann's brothers enlisted, as did her husband Thomas (and, it sometimes seems, most of the men in Warrick County). Thomas joined the 12th Kentucky Cavalry on 13 August 1862, and served as a Q.M. Sgt. until the end of the war. (See Civil War Documents file. However, there is only one page left of whatever file he had.)
He returned home to Warrick County, and they had two more children - William, named after his grandfather, and John, named after Mary Ann's brother who was killed early in the war. In 1870, Thomas was listed as a farmer, and not too terribly badly off - much better off than most of his Stanton relatives at any rate!

Thomas must have died not long after the 1870 census, because in 1872, Mary Ann applied for a widow's pension. Only William and John were listed as "minors of" on the application - I don't know what that means in terms of the survival of the girls - James would have been 18 at that time - not a minor?
It is vaguely possible that Mary Ann married another Baker, William Y, in 1879:

She would have been his third wife, if this indeed is her, and only his fourth and final wife is mentioned in his obit. But the 1880 census seems to substantiate this guess:

I don't know where her son William (who would have been 13) is, but he wasn't dead - his gravestone lists his year of death as 1910. Mary Ann's gravestone lists her death as 1883, but there is an obit for the "wife of William Y Baker" published in 1886, making another of those little genealogical puzzles for us to puzzle over. (I assume the grave marker is wrong or difficult to read.) She was buried next to her husband Thomas and her brother John.

Died - at the residence of her husband, in Boonville, on Wednesday, at 10 o'clock a.m., Mary L., wife of Wm. Y. Baker, of consumption, aged 49 years. The burial will take place at Mt. Gilead, at 12 o'clock to-day.
That is all I know about Mary Ann.
About her children? Well . . . .

I really have no idea what became of him. It's a pretty common name, so if I have found him, I haven't recognized it. There were two James Bakers in Warrick County in 1900, but neither is the right age (one is
born 1837 - too old; the other is born 1875 - too young.)
Leah Ann
She is another one I know nothing more about. There is a marriage listing for Larann Baker to Dorson R. Johnson (10 Oct 1872) - she would have been 15 or so. But I never found anything else.

1. Baker, Sarah - Eifler, Jacob jr - 24 Aug 1876 (our Sarah would be about 16) This Sarah is on the same page - and therefore lives in the same neighborhood - as (brother) John Y Baker in 1900. Problem - she says both parents were born in New York. Another thing in her favor - Mildred Wilder living with them in 1930. William S. Baker (*possibly * her brother) married Ollie Wilder in 1897 (and the problem with that is that William S died in 1910 and this Mildred was b. ~1913 - but maybe the cemetery listing is wrong!). There was another Sarah E Baker, who married Thos. Jeff. Wilder in 1867 - way too early for our girl, but a probable connection - but not necessarily to our girl - there are a lot of Bakers in the world.

(Another thing in favor of this Sarah is he fact that John Y Baker named a son of his Otis. Once the Stantons gave up naming children after parents, they seemed to name them after cousins. Grandma Ruth has a cousin named Aletha . . . .)
